A look back at a day full of insightful discussions and perspectives on today’s and tomorrow’s plastic-related challenges, held at the Totem and organized by CEA PLASTnet and AXELERA.

November 6th 2025 Pauline RIEU (INRAE) attended the event alongside Phuong-Mai Nguyen (LNE), who took part in the roundtable “From Eco-design to Safe & Sustainable by Design (SSbD) and the contributions of digital technologies.”

The roundtable, moderated by POC Media, was highly dynamic, with well-crafted questions that sparked concrete and enlightening exchanges.

Key takeaways from the day:

The discussions highlighted how essential collaboration between researchers, industry, and institutional stakeholders is to advance on these complex topics: regulatory developments, chemical safety, material performance, new processes…

It is truly through collective dialogue that solid and sustainable solutions can emerge.

There was also extensive discussion on different types of circular materials, particularly bioplastics and biopolymers, which open up new opportunities.

But one point was unanimous: recycled plastic remains a key pillar of the transition toward a circular economy, provided contaminants are controlled and material understanding is strengthened throughout their life cycle.

A stimulating day, rich in ideas and feedback, once again showing that building bridges between science, industry, and regulation is essential for shaping the safe and sustainable materials of tomorrow.
